Brazen Missionary Campaign Targets Chareidi Neighborhoods

In recent days, Yad L’Achim’s head office has been inundated with calls attesting to a devious missionary campaign being conducted in the heart of chareidi neighborhoods in Jerusalem, Beitar Ilit and Beit Shemesh.

The callers from Beitar Ilit reported a broad-based campaign including distribution of flyers in mailboxes on the following streets: Pachad Yitzchak, Yesod Ha’avodah, Rabbi Akiva and Maggid of Mezritch.

In Jerusalem, the campaign focused on the Zichron Moshe neighborhood and included Soloveitchik, David Yellin and Chafetz Chaim streets.
In Beit Shemesh, the campaign targeted the city center, and comes in the wake of a similar campaign last month in the chareidi neighborhoods of Ramat Beit Shemesh Bet and Ramat Beit Shemesh Gimmel.

Yad L’Achim praised the cooperation of the broader public in foiling the campaign. In Jerusalem, for instance, residents shouted at the missionaries and demanded that they leave them alone. As a result, the missionaries packed up and left shamefacedly.

At the same time, Yad L’Achim dispatched activists to the area to distribute material warning residents of the missionaries in their midst and urging them to destroy the flyers that had been stuffed in their mailboxes and distributed in other locations.

Yad L’Achim seeks to clarify that in any encounter with missionaries, the public should immediately call its hotline, which is manned around the clock. Alluding to the theme of Chanukah, Yad L’Achim administrators expressed the hope that “just as in those days the Jewish people were victorious over the Greeks and assimilationists, so too in our times it should be said to the missionaries and other enemies that Netzach Yisrael lo Yishaker.”
