Tel Aviv: Missionaries Distribute ‘Tehillim’ with Christian Teachings

From the outside, it appears to be a volume of Tehillim. But in reality

Outraged pedestrians in Tel Aviv phoned the Yad L’Achim hotline last week to report that missionaries were distributing innocent-looking “Tehillim” volumes that contained Christian teachings.

In response, Yad L’Achim dispatched a team to the area which confirmed that pocket-sized volumes were being deceptively presented to passersby as Tehillim. On the cover, in large letters, was the word Tehillim (Psalms), and beneath it, shaped in a semi-circles above a crown, the words “Taste and see that Hashem is good. Fortunate is the man who cleaves to Him.” Along the bottom are the words, “Blessed is the one who comes in the Name of Hashem.”

Nothing about the cover hints that the contents are anything but what they claim to be. However, a casual thumbing through the pages left no doubt: in between verses of Tehillim were unequivocal missionary messages on the revelation of J. and the imperative to believe in him and follow in his ways, R”l.

Yad L’Achim activists immediately set about retrieving all the copies that had already been distributed, explaining to stunned passersby their real nature. They also broadcast announcements throughout the area warning people not to be taken in by the innocent-looking volumes.

At a certain point, the missionaries realized that they had been exposed and there was no point in continuing their efforts.

Yad L’Achim officials confirmed the events, adding that they prove that the missionaries will stop at nothing to mislead Jews and get them to convert out of their religion.

“The time has come to amend the missionary law,” said one top official. “If for no other reason than to put an end to such fraud that the missionaries continue to perpetrate unhindered. There is no way to bring this to an end but to pass a law that effectively prohibits these activities, the sooner the better.”
